Sophie!

I haven't posted lately because I have been super busy. Between school; moving; and our brand-new, little pup, life has been moving in the fast lane. Sophie came to us Thursday around 6pm and captured our hearts about 6:09pm. She is 1-2 years (not quite sure) old and has had a litter of puppies this year. Sophie plays and runs everywhere and loves Brody and the toys he used to call his own. :o) We adopted her through Pup Squad and just love this little kid. If you come visit our new house, she will be super excited to welcome you.

Random Photo Wednesday

This was one of the keys we received with our house. I gave it to my mom and her response was, "But I don't like cats." My dad's: "It's so...zazzy."

If you understand that reference, I am sure we are great friends! :o)

Ridiculous.

My parents came over to our new house to help unpack kitchen stuff on Sunday. Iris came with them and decided her favorite place is inside one of our cabinets. She stayed there all afternoon. Such a little stinker.

School is back in session...for the teachers! Yesterday was our first day, and I came home exhausted (probably from the anxiety of presenting for my peers, although it was actually fun by the end of the day!). I had to take a little power nap before I worked on packing. :o) Today is more training; hopefully I remember to take a picture of my new classroom to share!

Vegas :: the mini album!

I've been working on a Vegas mini album on and off this summer...I still have work to do on it, but I figured I would share it since it's getting packed up in a box and will remain unfinished for several more weeks.

Hooray!!

We closed on our house!! Hooray! I'm trying to patiently wait for Friday afternoon, when we can actually get in. So right now we are anxious landlords for 40ish hours. But who's counting?

Someone's got a case of the Mondays...

Brody and Iris had some quality frog time this weekend.

Usually I'm not one to be bothered by Mondays, but today was brutal. Of course, I made it worse by wallowing in self-pity instead of just rolling with it. Brody did help me feel better when I got home. He licked my feet and wagged his tail super cute-like. Kind of gross actually, since he also licks my face with that tongue. Hmmm...

Tomorrow will be a better day though; it has to be--I'm on my last week of freedom here! And I use the term freedom loosely, as I'll be at school bright and early tomorrow for cub camp. And happy about it, of course!

I've got a pot of taco soup simmering on the stove and my new favorite devotional book to enjoy tonight. An adjustment of perspective is all I need! And a new episode of  the Real Housewives of New York generally makes me feel more sane as well...

I'm really lame.

I totally bought this shirt (that matches my file folders and border in my classroom). Wearing it the first Friday of school for SURE.

Totally random.

Begging to lick the caramel from my frappuccino.

1. I recently discovered that my coffee creamer and beloved frappuccino from Starbucks contain a small amount of a carcinogen (carrageenan--see source and source). Although I was troubled for a few minutes, Tyson and Mom both said that everyone dies of something and that everything you eat has something bad in it (probably). I am by no means an organic or clean-eater, and knowing that this is even found in organic dairy products wasn't converting me over. Kind of makes me want to research more on food, but then again--do I actually want to know? Is ignorance really bliss? Something to ponder.

2. This week I am attending a three-day training on integrating the readers' workshop model into the classroom. It's made me even more excited to get back to school (and I was already pretty pumped) and try to implement it. The instructor is the fabulous Becky Koesel and I kind of want to be her when I grow up.

3. My favorite barista is back from her vacation! I like her because she knows my order without me saying anything. And she always gives me the perfect amount of caramel drizzle.

4. I am sad, yet kind of happy the Olympics are almost over. Although Tyson and I both love watching the various events, it's exhausting trying to watch all the coverage. I wanted to watch a Harry Potter movie this weekend but didn't want to miss anything. Pathetic, I'm aware. Luckily when we saw The Dark Knight Rises on Saturday we caught a late afternoon showing and then watched beach volleyball at a restaurant afterwards.

5. Teachers report back to school in just 13 days!! Eek!

A few thoughts...

Why are highlighter shoes so cool? The Olympic athletes are making me cave to their fashion pressure.
I don't know if I can ever go back to buying hamburger buns now that I've made my own--seriously amazing!
Was Usain's last name always Bolt? That's pretty much the best name for a runner ever.
This week I have 3 days of training. I am kind of concerned that I won't be able to sit still all day.
This week I am trying a new enchilada recipe, jalapeƱo popper chicken, my favorite black bean soup, and red beans rice. Whoop whoop!
I'm kind of obsessed with this watch. Hint hint parents or husband! That would look so cute on my wrist for my birthday!!

Can you feel the hate? I had just brushed her teeth.

Brody had a dog date! He loved it. And is now grunts at us all the time that he doesn't have enough friends.
