Project Life 2013, Week 16

Week 16. A heart-wrenching week in current events...but my school raised a lot of money for a really good cause! So many people were commenting that it was a reminder of the good in the world after such a yucky week. My students raised almost $900 in my class alone--I was so proud of and touched by their generosity.

In other news, it was really cold, Tyson "fixed" his grill (he extended the little chimney thing because his research showed that it was too short), and Brody and Sophie were hospitable host and hostess at our small group get together. Sophie was even doing well with a toddler! My eyes almost popped out of my head. Cause, you know, she likes to intimidate people (read: bark and nip at them).

In un-documented (Project Life-wise) news, I found out what I will most likely be teaching next year. Same subject and grade, different workload. But it could all change several times over the summer. I have decided that the name of the game is flexibility in education. It's good for character though--keeps you on your toes and makes sure you are adaptable.

State testing today and tomorrow. That means squirrelly adolescents and jeans days.

Menu Planning Monday

I'm finally getting around to a more normal cooking schedule. :o)

Menu Planning Monday
monday :: spicy garlic salmon* with couscous
tuesday :: honey sesame chicken (slow cooker recipe!)
wednesday :: beef enchiladas
thursday :: pesto tortellini
friday :: baked potato night

*I seriously love this salmon recipe. So easy. I have only made a few alterations...

Makes two (4-6 oz.) servings

2 cloves of garlic, minced (1 t.)
1 t. red pepper flakes
1 t. whole grain or dijon mustard
1 T. olive oil
juice of half a lemon
1/2 t. kosher salt
1/4 t.(ish) freshly-ground pepper
salmon fillets

1. Preheat oven to 400*F. Line a baking sheet with aluminum (if that's your thing...easy clean-up!). Lay fillets skin side down on the pan.
2. Mix together remaining ingredients in small bowl. Using a brush, coat the fillets with the mixture.
3. Bake 12-15 minutes until salmon flakes with fork.

Say what?

I live in Houston. It is April. It's supposed to get down to 45 degrees tonight. So we have a fire in the fireplace.

Project Life 2013, Week 15

30% done with 2013 already. That is crazy to me.

I had a fairly yummy week. I also really enjoyed the weather...thus taking my estudiantes outside to read! They were so excited for about 10 minutes. Then it was too sunny and hot and buggy, etc.

And since I'm a visualizer (that's a word, right? it sounds odd), both of the one pagers together. I kept with the hues of blue in an attempt to make it cohesive. I think it works okay. Man, I want some of that BBQ again! (Sidenote: Tyson bought a jar of their sauce to bring home, which I promptly broke on my parents' driveway when we drove through to pick up the dogs. I told him at least it was an excuse to go back soon.)

Snow's BBQ

On the way up to Arlington this weekend, we stopped at Snow's BBQ. It was recommended to Tyson by a coworker, Texags, and Texas Monthly...so we couldn't resist. They are only open on Saturday mornings and serve until they run out of food. We waited for about 40 minutes and ended up being one of the last getting their delicious brisket. Totally worth the wait.

Quotable quotes.

(My class talking about North Korea)
student: Can't we just send them a cheeseburger or something?

Project Life 2013, Week 14

An even more simple week...if that's possible! I probably would have skipped this week if it weren't for  wanting to document the fact that we had cheer tryouts. Because I was pretty drained on Saturday afternoon. I did not document the factoid that we watched 16 episodes of Criminal Minds over the span of seven days... tee hee.

Project Life 2013, Week 13

I am so lame. We are currently getting ready for cheer tryouts and I've been staying after school later than normal. As a result, I have taken it out on my poor blog. But I will be done (after waking up at 6:30am on a Saturday...gross) tomorrow morning, so yay.

I did do last week's project life. Happy spring-y colors. :o)

I am hoping to take some time to scrapbook this weekend...we shall see. I need to print some more recent pictures I think. And get one of Hermione's time turners.
